This recipe for homemade bread pudding just calls for a few basic ingredients, but the end product is delicious. It’s one of those dishes that goes back to the basics that everyone like.

Instructions

Spread the bread cubes equally on a baking sheet with a rim that about 18 by 13 inches. Bake in a preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes, tossing once halfway through, or until nearly dry. Remove and allow cooling.
Lower the oven’s setting to 300 degrees.
Combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large mixing basin (while breaking up brown sugar clumps with fingertips as needed).

Add the eggs and egg yolks and mix by whisking. After that, thoroughly mix milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.

Toss the mixture with a rubber spatula to coat the bread cubes after adding the milk liquid to an extra-large mixing bowl. Allow it sit for 15 to 30 minutes, stirring regularly, until milk mixture has been absorbed.
Butter is melted and added to a casserole dish (about 12 by 8-inch). Spread equally in baking dish after adding bread mixture.

Bake in a 300°F oven until the middle is firm, 50 to 65 minutes.
Allow it cool for ten minutes before cutting into squares and serving with whipped cream and salted caramel sauce, if preferred.
