The base of these deep-fried strawberry shortcakes is a simple “homemade” doughnut prepared using canned biscuits, which is topped with handmade fresh whipped cream and cut strawberries. It elevates strawberry shortcake to new heights!

And if you’re like me and don’t like for angel food cake or conventional shortcake, this is the treat for you! Instead of a flaky sponge cake, you’ll receive a warm doughnut dusted with cinnamon sugar. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Deep fried strawberry shortcake is a tasty twist on conventional strawberry shortcake, including a deep fried cinnamon sugar donut as the cake!

Ingredients

1 big refrigerated biscuits (16.33 oz) oil for frying (peanut, canola, vegetable, etc.)
strawberries (1 pint) (sliced)
1 teaspoon of sugar
For the cinnamon sugar, follow these instructions:
1 teaspoon cinnamon
6 teaspoons of sugar
To make the whipped cream, combine the following ingredients in a mixing bowl.
2 quarts of thick cream
a half-cup of powdered sugar

Instructions
Separate the biscuits into 8 pieces, then cut each one in half lengthwise to get 16 pieces.
In a big saucepan filled approximately 2 inches deep with oil, heat over medium heat.
In a small dish, combine strawberries and sugar while the oil heated. Remove from the equation.
In a separate small dish, combine the cinnamon and sugar and set it aside.
Once the oil is hot, drop 2 to 4 biscuit pieces in and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.

Drain any excess oil by placing the doughnuts on a paper towel-lined plate.
Roll the biscuits in the cinnamon sugar while they’re still warm.
With a stand mixer or an electric hand mixer, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form in a large mixing dish.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
Assemble the shortcakes on a platter with a fried doughnut, whipped cream, and fresh berries. (For a double layer shortcake, repeat with another stack.)
