Honey garlic shrimp with rice and broccoli in a bowl
This week, are you searching for a quick but wonderful dinner? We’ve got it all right here for you. A robust marinade of honey, soy sauce, and garlic lends a lot of flavor to these saucy shrimp, which is music to everyone’s taste buds. We add some minced fresh ginger for a little more flavor, but it’s completely optional.

What’s the deal with these Honey Garlic Shrimp?
Flavor: The marinade is flavorful, but our favorite aspect of this meal is the gorgeous caramelized honey and garlic pieces adhered to the pan and the shrimp’s edges. Scrape it all up before serving so you don’t lose out on any of the tasty bits.
Ease: This is a pretty simple meal dish, regardless of your ability level. Prepare the marinade, then use half of it to marinate the shrimp and the remaining as a sauce to fry the shrimp in. It’s convenient that the marinade doubles as a sauce; we do the same thing with our maple sesame salmon.

Cooking the shrimp on the stove takes 5 minutes, while marinating takes another 15. In approximately 20 minutes, you’ll have a wonderfully excellent and easy lunch on the table.

Choosing the Right Honey Garlic Shrimp Shrimp Ingredients Raw shrimp can be used fresh or frozen. Before you begin, make sure the shrimp are properly defrosted. Make sure the shrimp are peeled and deveined first. If desired, the tails can be left on or removed. See the recipe note below if you’re using previously cooked shrimp.

Honey, garlic, and soy sauce. This marinade/sauce is bursting with flavor and is inspired by some of the most delicious tastes found in Asian cuisine. (We also love Omnivore’s Kitchen’s honey soy sauce glazed fish.)
Onions in their green state. This optional garnish adds a pop of color and freshness to the dish.

How to Make Honey Garlic Shrimp in 20 Minutes
The whole printable recipe is below, but first, let’s go over each step so you know what to expect.

Prepare the marinade.
Prepare the prawns by marinating them. Combine the marinade and shrimp in a mixing bowl and marinate for at least 15 minutes or up to 8 hours. We normally simply marinade it for approximately 15 minutes, which allows you to make your side dishes such as steamed veggies and instant brown rice during that time.
Prepare the shrimp. Cook the shrimp in a little olive oil, then flip and finish with the remaining sauce.
Garnish. Serve with green onions on top.

Shrimp with Honey and Garlic in 20 Minutes

Description
This 20-minute honey garlic shrimp dish is a crowd-pleaser. It’s super-quick, super-easy, and oh-so-flavorful. This healthful recipe is likely to become a regular in your dinner rotation whether served with brown rice and veggies or over a salad.

Ingredients

a third cup of honey
a quarter cup of soy sauce (we usually use reduced sodium)
2 minced garlic cloves (or 1 Tablespoon jarred minced garlic)
optional: 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
1 pound uncooked medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
green onion, diced, as a garnish option
Instructions

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger (if using). Half will be used for the marinade in step 2 and the other half will be used to fry the shrimp in step 3.

Put the shrimp in a big sealable container or a bag with a zippered lid. Pour half of the marinade/sauce mixture on top, give everything a good shake or toss, and let the shrimp marinate for 15 minutes or up to 8 hours in the refrigerator. Step 3: Cover and chill the remaining marinade. (As a time-saving suggestion, we prepare broccoli and microwave some fast brown rice while the shrimp marinates.)
In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. In a skillet, place the shrimp. (Remove the used marinade.) Cook for 45 seconds on one side, then turn to cook for another 45 seconds. Pour in the remaining marinade/sauce and simmer until the shrimp are fully cooked, about 1-2 minutes longer.

Serve the shrimp with the prepared marinade sauce and a green onion garnish. On brown rice with steaming vegetables on the side, the sauce tastes delicious.

Notes

Do you want to thicken the sauce? Some readers add 1 teaspoon cornstarch to the second half of the sauce that will be cooked in step 3 to thicken it. This thickens the sauce and prevents it from being as runny. To do so, whisk together 1 teaspoon cornstarch and 1 teaspoon warm water using a fork. Stir the cornstarch into the sauce once it has dissolved before using it in step 3.

Garlic: Use 2 cloves (about 2 tablespoons minced) if using fresh garlic that you have minced yourself. Use 1 Tablespoon of chilled jarred minced garlic.
You may either remove or leave the tail on the shrimp. Fresh shrimp is preferred, however frozen shrimp can still be used. Before marinating and cooking, allow the meat to thaw. Thaw, marinade, then cook frozen cooked shrimp as indicated. All you’ll be doing is cooking up the shrimp in the sauce.
It’s a contentious issue whether or not to eat leftover marinade. While you may boil it to remove any contaminants, the flavor may vary. Do whatever you want. We just use half of the sauce for the marinade in this recipe so we have extra for cooking. (At this point, we toss out the used marinade.)
